In the vivarium, water quality is of the utmost importance. Normal tap water contains too much lime and other soluble salts. When this water evaporates, these salts will remain in the system and their concentration will rise dramatically after a period.

Plants and water

Plants like orchids and ferns, which normally receive pure rainwater, cannot endure high concentrations of salts and will eventually start to die off. Pure water contains neither lime nor salts. In the vivarium, filled with pure water, high concentrations of soluble salts will not occur and all plants will thrive.

Reverse Osmosis System

This system forces the tap water through a highly selective membrane, which only allows water particles to pass.
It carries off all soluble salts to the drain. With average water pressure, it is possible to purify up to 50 litres of water per day.
Replacement of the first filter has to be once in half a year. This system becomes cost-effective with a use of
±25 litres per week.
