Extra ordinary organism found in a vivarium

Paul Howe wrote me an e-mail a couple of day’s ago,
asking me what the organism was, that was sprouting
in his vivarium.
He sends me a photo too

12 Hours later the organism had doubled his size.
Another 12 hours later Paul told me:
“The day after i sent you the photographs it burst out of my terrarium grew over the top then died-so its completely gone. When the whatever grew out of the terrarium it looked like a big puff ball then died. My girlfriend expected to wake up & find it growing all over the walls!
Keep me posted. Did you find out what it was?”

Slime mould

To find out what this beautiful brightly coloured organism was, we organized a contest asking our website visitors if they could give us some idea’s and comments. There were a lot of useful contributions in the search for this extra ordinary organism, what turned out to be a slime mould. Martijn Niessen, of the Netherlands was the first to respond and did a lot of research on the subject. We choose him as the winner of our contest and he won a complete Basic Misting System.

The most useful contributions remain on this website as information for everyone who is interested in this intriguing phenomenon.
